The warmth of mother was missing , the touch of sisters was missing , the care of father wrapped in his reprimand was missing. When you are away from your dear ones , each pain is enhanced , each happiness is shortened. The irritating traffic & pollution of the hometown now comes as a melody to your memories. You find the sound of daddy's scooter everywhere in the traffic. You turn every time only to find that its not your daddy. The breeze just went gives you the feeling that just now mom passed by & caressed your cheeks with affection. Each & everything around you somehow manages to connect you with home. That is NOSTALGIA.
You manage to hide your tears behind your thick bordered spectacles. What hurts more is that nobody notice that. And you wish that at least somebody notice that agony. With the eyes filled with tears you go to the food junction you eat daily and out of nowhere the Punjabi uncle who serve you Aloo paratha reads you & caress your back with affection . You cry your heart out towards the unexpected love from a stranger. Even on asking you are unable to explain what was the reason for such a mourning.
You are going on a morning walk jogging with enthusiasm & excitement for achieving the fitness target. You find an old uncle happily stomping with arms raising very high on each step & you find you own enthusiasm less. This all the thing you were missing all the time you are away from dear ones.
After a gap of years you are back to your home. Now you want to revisit the memories you have always cherished. You want to actually live the moments you had memories of. But what do you find in the end. The inspiring dad who gave you valuable lesson in your growing year who has been you role model in dealing with struggles of life is himself struggling with life. Frequent memory losses causing him forgetting keys in the scooter, forgetting ways of neighborhood & getting lost again and again. You feel bad for what happened to your childhood hero. Suddenly a person who gave you courage in those testing times when other doors were closed, is himself in loss of strength. The constant struggle for him to do daily tasks of reading the newspaper, driving the scooter , changing channels in TV , ironing his shirt etc makes you believe the power of time.
The loving mother who is content with your mere presence. A woman who was daily super excited on your return from school. her excitement is still the same on seeing you coming back to home but her body is not backing her emotions. She is shivering hard & her hands are trembling while preparing your favourite laddoos for you. Age has eroded her vision severely that you find her struggling to put a thread into the needle. The sisters who used to protect you from mother's scoldings or buy a chocolate for your from their own piggy bank savings are busy in their married . Now seeing them in front of your eyes is not giving you the joy , the joy their childhood memories used to give you.
You sit back & think who were you missing , the presence of the dear ones or the dear things they used to do for you.
Is it Nostalgia?
